Finding Great Food Related Facebook Groups

If food is your hobby, consider joining a Facebook group about food as a way to learn more and share with others. Facebook groups offer users not just a place to look up recipes or find pictures of new or favorite dishes, but a whole community. When you join a good group, you interact with a whole network of people who can assist you, answer your questions, give you tips, and or just share a laugh.

One great group is simply titled “Food!” Like many open Facebook groups, you may find the occasional post in a language other than English or spam post, but most of the postings and conversation centers around cooking and food. People frequently post photos of items they have made, along with recipes or links to recipes. Some posters also discuss health and diet issues as well as how to make delicious meals for those on special diets.

“Food Zone,” a vegetarian group, also offers photos and recipes for people interested in trying them out. The group aims to promote vegetarianism, so while you do not have to be a vegetarian to join the group, they limit the type of cuisine featured on the site to vegetarian meals. This site contains a lot of ethnic foods, which benefits anyone looking to expand your culinary horizons. Additionally, posters will sometimes post about non-food topics, such as peace.

Another popular group, “Food and Wine” also offers recipes, photos, and a community of people to share ideas with. Unlike Food! and Food Zone, which are open groups, Food and Wine is a closed group. Open groups allow you to browse the group’s wall postings and see all public communications within the group without having to join the group first. And anyone can join the group. Closed groups require you to join first before you can see any of the group’s wall postings, and an administrator has to approve your membership in the group before you can post. One of the main benefits of joining a closed group, such as Food and Wine, is that it severely limits spam by being more selective who can join.

If you want to find these or your own food-related groups, Facebook lets you find groups quickly and easily. Either type the name of a group you already know the title of in the search bar, or type in “food,” or a particular type of food that interests you, and hit the magnifying glass icon to the right of the search bar. When the list page comes up, then select “groups” to find a list of all groups related to your search on Facebook.
